Summary of free-text comments
Several key themes emerged in the free-text responses:
Positive aspects
- The course was highly practical and closely aligned with workplace skills.
- Students appreciated the time provided to work on tasks and learn new tools (e.g., WordPress).
- Many found the course relevant, hands-on, and engaging.
Areas for improvement
- Group size: Groups of seven were perceived as too large, leading to unclear task distribution and uneven workload.
- Structure and tutoring: Students requested a clearer structure and more check-ins throughout the process.
- Imbalances: There were some imbalances in student workload, which caused frustration. Also, imbalances in the group affected the website-building element.
- Lack of progression/Too much progression: One student called for more deepening or specialization. Conversely, other students, with no previous experience, felt they needed more lectures or feedback time.
Events during the course that may have influenced the evaluation results
No external events were noted. However, the complexity of the project and the timing of tutoring may have contributed to students’ mixed experiences.
Comments on exam results
Most students were able to deliver the expected project outcomes. However, some group conflicts and uneven participation may have affected the learning experience for individual students.
Comments on other forms of evaluation during the course
Informal feedback during project development showed that some groups struggled with collaboration and time management. These issues were also reflected in the written evaluation, particularly regarding the need for clearer role division and more structured support.
Additional comments
From a teacher’s perspective, it is difficult to fully accommodate both students who are completely new to these tasks and those who already have significant prior knowledge. Striking the right balance between support and independence becomes a central, but complex, pedagogical task. This is a recurring challenge in project-based and practice-oriented courses. There is also a perception among the teaching team that detailed guides and instructions for the technical tools are already available, which makes these comments somewhat difficult to interpret. It is possible that the existing materials need to be made more visible or accessible, but as it stands, we do not fully understand what is missing.
Planned course development
Some suggestions might be:
- Reduce group size?
- Increase supervision sessions during intensive phases?
- Introduce structured role descriptions and require group work agreements to ensure fairness.
- Possibly include peer feedback to improve discussion among groups
